Steve Mealings

Having completed my degree at Liverpool Polytechnic in the summer of 1988 I briefly toyed with the idea of a career in the Royal Hong Kong Police before being drawn back to the world of the Building Surveyor by the bright lights of London where I cut my teeth in the neighbourly matters and Rights of Light field working for one of Anstey Hornes main competitors at that time. I achieved Chartered status in 1990 and returned to my home city of Birmingham. During this time I continued to practice in neighbourly matters and Rights of Light as well as the wider building surveying field giving me what is probably now a unique breadth of experience.

I joined Anstey Horne in 2016, establishing the Birmingham office, the company’s first outside London, and now lead the neighbourly matters service offering, which includes Rights of Light, Daylight & Sunlight, Solar Glare, Party Walls and Boundary Disputes, across the Midlands region and further afield advising developers and adjoining owners alike.

Outside of work I enjoy travel, music and food although not necessarily in that order. One of the advantages of having grown up children is that travel is now far cheaper and we are not tied to school holidays. As a result, my wife Karen and I are slowly working through our bucket list and get away as often as possible for short and long breaks both further afield and also here in the UK taking our Weimaraner, Norman, with us whenever possible.
