Paul Phillips

From an early age I was fascinated by castles, heritage buildings and the stories they carry. Growing up in Coventry with grandparents who lived through the Blitz, I became aware of how war, reconstruction and modern development can reshape communities and erase historic identity. Lego first gave me a practical understanding of how buildings are assembled, and why they sometimes fail, which ultimately led me into Building Surveying.

My career began with measured surveys and residential design work before moving into Party Wall matters, property management and defect investigation. In 2016 I joined Anstey Horne, where I helped grow the Building Consultancy team and later specialised in fire safety, EWS1 assessments and FRAEWs under PAS 9980. Now as Senior Director responsible for our London and South East, the team focuses on due diligence, building defects and disputes.

Outside work, I volunteer on the Ffestiniog Railway and enjoy travel, folklore and industrial heritage. For me, surveying is ultimately about protecting people, buildings and the stories they hold.
