Alexa Cotterell

Since qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1997, I have spent my career in private practice, gaining extensive experience across a broad range of building surveying disciplines. While I specialise in external wall surveying, I have over a decade of expertise delivering all aspects of building surveying.

Now heading up the Building Surveying team in our Birmingham office, what I enjoy most about my role is the variety it brings. No two days are the same, one day I may be preparing detailed reports in the office, and the next I’ll be on site carrying out inspections or meeting clients and stakeholders. The profession is highly sociable, and I have the opportunity to meet new people on an almost daily basis, which keeps the work both interesting and rewarding.

Interestingly, my original ambition was to become an interior designer. However, during a period of work experience, I discovered the world of building surveying and quickly realised it offered the perfect combination of technical expertise, problem-solving, and variety.
